Hidden Beauties of Avignon

August 30, 2011 at 20:35 (Uncategorized)

One of the most beautiful and fun cities I’ve ever seen is Avignon. For the ones who’ve never heard of it: it’s a city in Soutern France. I’ve been there 3 times now (one time when I was little, can’t remember much of it, so it probably doesn’t count). The last two times were this year. The most interesting aspect about the city is that its beauty is hidden in these little places that you have to find yourself. You have to search for them. There’s the obvious beauty: an ancient city, you have to drive around it to enter it, so you can see the whole city from just one road (of course, you can only see it from the outside). But there’s also a hidden beauty, as I said before: a sunset, seen from the Palais des Papes; the right solstice at the right time; a boat on the Rhône, on the left of the Pont d’Avignon; a street artist in the shadow of a tree when the sun is about to set;..

I could go on and on about Avignon (don’t even get me started about Paris), but before you can judge, you have to see it. At your own risk, of course.
